All About Me!
Hi, my name is Julia Hart, and welcome to Shortcake Productions.
Having worked in the entertainment industry for over five years, I decided it was time to create Shortcake Productions. Being a Mum to my daughter 7 and my son 5, I started experiencing the children’s party market first hand.
Not so long ago my children started going
to birthday parties, week in week out, at the same local indoor
play centres. You know the ones I mean, don’t you? Full
of plastic balls, too hot in the summer, too cold in the winter
and deep-fried party food served with chips, chips and more
chips.
When I think back to when I was a little girl I remember the
wonderful parties we had at home. Mum baking the cake in secret,
the excitement before everybody arrives, playing pass the
parcel, musical bumps and pin the tail on the donkey. I even
remember the smell of the candles when I had just blown them
out.
All this is missing from children’s play centre parties. And I want my children to have wonderful memories, just like me!

My children inspired me
To bring back the magic I experienced for their parties and for those of Shortcake Productions’ clients. One day, after tea with friends, we set about creating the wonderful stories we now use. I allowed the children to lead, dancing around the room, their imaginations running riot; very quickly a story started to emerge and within that cold winter afternoon a magical adventure was created. Utilising my children has helped to create the stories on their level, with their understanding. The enjoyment they had in developing this story was overwhelming and I knew other children would love it too.
As a parent, I know what is important when it comes to children’s parties. I know that the tacky toys from the party bags go straight into the bin. I know for certain that a child’s imagination stretches further than an indoor play centre allows.

We believe parties need to be stress-free – after all, why shouldn’t Mum and/or Dad have as much fun as the children and enjoy the same special memories. They should be joining in with the games, rather than stuck in the kitchen or ferrying party guests back and forth to the loo.
